Here is a short article about the Mega-Flash LED Light Bar:

Who is this product for? Well the answer is LED Lightbars are suitable for anybody who needs a highly effective vehicle warning system to warn other road users of their presence on the highway. These light bars are also an ideal up-grade from older halogen vehicle warning lightbars. The Mega-Flash Lightbar Range meets or exceeds the regulations currently required for use on the road, making these products suitable for just about every Emergency Vehicle requirements.

What does the Product do? Mega-Flash LED Lightbars are manufactured as a 360 degree vehicle warning system. The Light Bar is of a modular construction, meaning that the number of light modules, and their position in the lightbar can be customised to meet our customers needs, while still remaining legal to use on the road.

Where do I use it? Mega-Flash LED Light Bars are suitable fro roof mounting on cars, vans, and larger vehicles that require a 360 degree warning light to be fitted. The Mega-Flash range is available in 14 different lengths from 12″ (30cm) to 82″ (208cm), so there is bound to be one that is just right for you. If there isn’t, then the factory can often build a custom size if needed.

How do I use it? When you buy your light Bar, it will depending upon it’s size, come with either a 3 metre cable with a cigarette style switch fitted, for the 12″, 20″ and 23.5″ meaning that the unit will work straight out of the box. If you want to order a larger lightbar, then it will come with an unterminated cable for you to attach to a switch panel. Full instructions for its use come with each product.

Why would you want an LED Lightbar? The reasons customers buy our products are many and varied. Some just want the latest technology, some want one because their mate has just got one, and some have to have one because of legislation that requires them to.

The initial purchase costs of these products are not cheep, but you have to look at the acquisition costs over the lifetime of the product. Most manufactures these days, including ours, are guaranteeing the LED’s in their products for 5 years. They wouldn’t do this if they were not reliable.

Modern technology means that lightbars can be designed as extremely “Low Profile” which means considerably less drag when driving, resulting in increased fuel savings over a period of time, compared to the old halogen rotator lightbar designs. Moreover, as LED’s are not bulbs or lamps, there are no filaments to burn out requiring the bulb to be replaced. In fact, quality designed LED units will run for between 50,000 and 100,000 hours.

Why are LED Lightbars So Expensive?

Any new technology when it first comes along will be expensive. It is true to say that LED Technology has been around for a few years now. But, in the field of Emergency Vehicle Lighting, you must have above all, reliability. Using cheap parts is just not an option.

You will see on sites such as eBay, lots of cheap and not so cheap imports from mostly China, that are not worth the money you have paid for them. For a start they are, Illegal to fit to your vehicle because they do not carry the required certification. This means that they have not been tested to the required standard which for the UK and The EU is ECE R65. This specification means that the equipment has been tested in accordance with the United Nations requirement for electrical interference which may cause loss of control of motor vehicles.

Each country in the EU has its own mark under this system. In the UK, this is e11, or E11. Equipment certified in one EU country, should be legal to fit in another member state, but this is not always the case.

The above regulations are one of the reasons that LED Lightbars are not cheap. This testing can often cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, and has to be conducted for each product model manufactured.

The cost of the LED’s is another factor. Yes you can buy LED’s by the thousands at pretty good prices, but these LED’s are not suitable for Emergency Vehicle Warning Lights. No, the LED’s used need to be of the highest quality, and therefore they cost a lot more. They also need to be very bright. This high intensity requirement causes a significant problem, HEAT. This heat has to be dispersed otherwise it will destroy the LED. This means adequate heat dissipation systems have to be incorporated into lightbar design. Couple this to the fact that products manufactured here in the UK cost more to produce, and you can soon see how the prices rise.

Mega-Flash Light Bars represent an amalgamation of Quality Design, Manufacture, and excellent Value for Money. If you don’t believe me, go and check out the prices for lightbars made by Whelen, Federal Signal, Code 3, 911EP, Premier Hazzard, Vision Alert and Haztec.
